Western Lane Community Foundation created the Arlis Ulman
Health Careers Scholarship in 2011. This scholarship honors
long-time Florence resident, Arlis Ulman. Arlis served the community
for many years as a nurse. Since her retirement she has continued to
serve in a volunteer capacity. She was a member of the board of
directors of Western Lane Community Foundation and after
expiration of her terms, she has continued to be active in the
foundation, serving as Scholarship Program Coordinator for the past
13 years.

The scholarship is $3000, awarded to a nursing or pre-nursing
student attending Lane Community College. The student must be a
continuing student rather than a matriculating freshman.

The Student must demonstrate a commitment to academic
achievement. This may be done by showing a high GPA, or by
showing a consistently increasing GPA. Alternatively, a student may
demonstrate that they have persisted in pursuing a degree against
substantial obstacles.

Deadline for 2011 applications is June 30, 2011. Applications must
bereceived by Western Lane Community Foundation with all
required enclosures no later than June 30, 2011. Applications should
be mailed to PO Box 1589, Florence, OR 97439 or delivered to the
office at 1525 w. 12th St., Suite 18, Florence, OR.
